Clinical Trial Unit

The Clinical Trial Unit is responsible for the coordination of clinical research projects in the Swiss Paraplegic Centre Nottwil (SPC) and the  implementation of the “Good Clinical Practice” guidelines. The Clincal Trial Unit (CTU) Nottwil has been an associate member of the Swiss Clinical Trial Organisation (SCTO), the umbrella organisation for all CTUs in Switzerland, since 02.12.2014.

Our long term goal is to establish a centre of competence for spinal cord injury research in close collaboration with the department Acute Medicine and Rehabilitation, the department Intensive Care, Pain and Operative Medicine and the department Outpatient Clinic.

The Clinical Trial Unit provides different services to SPC staff and their collaboration partners, like for example:

  • support for the development of the study design and plan
  • statistical analyses
  • support for writing ethics application
  • medical writing
  • drafting and review of research contracts
  • data management
  • monitoring
  • archiving of study documents
  • organisation of research meetings
  • support for Journal Clubs
  • supervision of MSc, MD, PhD theses

Between 30 and 40 studies are running in the Swiss Paraplegic Centre Nottwil. A large proportion of these are interdisciplinary studies, i.e. collaboration projects of several departments. Approximately half of the studies are collaboration projects with external partners or multi-centre projects (e.g. SwiSCI, EMSCI).
